There was a time when I was living almost like a bomb ready to explode, I had accumulated a lot of anger against individuals and circumstances. I was so angry that I decided not to keep a firearm or weapon ever with me. There were frequent episodes of rage that occurred during the eighteen months when anger within me was at unacceptable level. By forgiving and by being forgiven we close karmic chapters. It is like withdrawing energy from an oscillating pendulum that is hindering inner tranquility and peace. We improve our relations significantly with others when we actively seek forgiveness for our past inappropriate deeds. It also prevents us from initiating further hostilities against our own fellow beings.
In spite of all the advantages, seeking forgiveness is a difficult issue when it comes to practical implementation. The risk of further aggravating a strained relation, a bitter rivalry or becoming subject of revenge is high and one should move with caution. These problems haunted me initially but then I realized the subtle ways to do it. As usual, I am thankful to god for assistance that came in the form of intuition. It helped me reduce a lot of stress, anger and resentment. Suggested steps that help seek forgiveness are the following:

Knowing and accepting our mistakes is the first step for forgiving oneself and for seeking forgiveness from others. Unless and until we realize and accept our own mistakes we cannot start the process of forgiving ourselves and others. Here are some steps that have helped me and I am sure will help any one who is ready to forgive himself for his mistakes.
- Quieten the voice of ego: The rational mind always justifies itself; it throws a lot of tantrums to prevent us from accepting our own errors. For example, a customer walks up to me and asks “which is the best product for me?” as a business owner I guide him to a product that gives highest profit obscuring better alternatives. This behaviour will always be justified by ego unless someone else does it to me. Once I get to taste my own medicine I might realize the effects of purposely misguiding.
The ego has all the excuses under the sun for justifying actions that prevent us from becoming good. You can find these traits in the post ‘How to be good’. All of us have areas in our lives where we can see us as perpetrators rather than victims. As ignorant beings we inflict pain on others to accomplish selfish motives. It might not seem apparent but there are innumerable benefits of being a good person. These benefits come because Goodness is our natural and most stable state that blends with our inner self. The moment we deviate from goodness, we start a conflict within ourselves, loosing many of the God given gifts like peace, happiness, self-confidence, faith and intuition. We must keep in mind, that the core of our being is good of the highest order, but when we identify ourselves separately through our ego we bury that core under the debris of bad. Happiness is just a state of mind… OK agreed! But is there a way to maintain that state all the time? Let us explore…
The key to happiness lies in our understanding of truth. A clear understanding of happiness principles allows us to practice them in thought and action. As we apply our understanding of truth in our lives we start to improve base line happiness in our lives. Conversely, our ignorance often deludes and pushes us towards unhappiness. I have listed six instrumental answers that have helped me improve my base line happiness, allowing me to be happy even during testing times.
